What Is a Team Store? A Plain Explanation for First-Time Coaches

If you're coaching for the first time, or you just joined a board and keep hearing "team store" thrown around without anyone explaining what it actually means, here's the plain version.

The Simple Definition

A team store is a branded online store built specifically for your team — your logo, your colors, your roster — where players and their families shop directly. It's not a public storefront anyone can browse; it's built for one team, usually with a private link that only your families receive.

What Actually Happens, Step by Step

  1. You tell us about your team — colors, logo, sport, and what gear you want available (jersey, shorts, warm-ups, fan wear, whatever applies).
  2. We build the store, with everything mocked up in your team's design and sizing charts included for each item.
  3. You get a link and share it with your families — text, email, group chat, however your team communicates.
  4. Each family visits the link, picks their sizes, and pays directly. You're not involved in that step at all.
  5. Gear gets produced and shipped or made available for pickup, depending on your setup.

What You Don't Have to Do

Collect sizes from fifteen different families. Chase down the two or three parents who forget to pay. Manage a spreadsheet of who ordered what. Handle any money at all, actually — it goes straight from each family to the order, not through you.

What Goes in a Team Store

Usually more than just the game uniform. A typical store includes the jersey and shorts, plus whatever else the program wants available — warm-ups, practice gear, and fan or spirit wear for parents, all in one place instead of separate orders.

Is It Free?

Yes — there's no setup fee and no minimum order to open a team store. It's free for the coach or program to create; families only pay for what they individually choose to buy. If your program is trying to decide between this and a different setup where the organization pays for everything up front instead, that's a slightly different question worth its own explanation.
