Switching Uniform Vendors: How to Bring Your Team's Design With You
A lot of coaches and directors stay with a uniform vendor they're not happy with for one simple reason: switching feels like it means starting over — redesigning everything, re-explaining the program's colors and identity to someone new, losing whatever consistency the team has built up. That's not actually how it has to work.
You Don't Have to Start From Zero
If you're switching vendors, you don't need original design files or anything fancy to bring your team's look with you. A photo — even just a phone picture from a game, a screenshot of an old product page, or a photo of last season's jersey hanging in a closet — is usually enough for us to recreate your team's design: same colors, same layout, same numbering style. Whatever's recognizable as "your team" stays recognizable.
What Makes This Easier
The more reference material you can send, the closer and faster the match — a clear front-and-back photo, any old order confirmations or product pages if you still have access to them, and a rough sense of the specific colors (Pantone codes if you happen to have them, though most coaches don't and that's fine too). But even a single decent photo is a real starting point, not a dead end.
When It's an Exact Match vs. "Close Enough, But Better"
For color, layout, and overall design, recreating from a photo usually gets very close to an exact match. Where it sometimes differs slightly is in small details a photo doesn't capture perfectly — and honestly, that's often a chance to clean up small inconsistencies that had crept into the old design over the years anyway, while keeping everything that makes the uniform recognizably yours.
Why Coaches End Up Switching in the First Place
Usually it's not the uniform itself — it's what came with getting it. Sizing that never quite lined up, slow turnaround with no clear timeline, and a support experience that felt like a ticket number instead of a conversation are the most common reasons a program looks elsewhere.
